A North Carolina man wanted in both Georgia and Louisiana is behind bars in Franklin County after leading Sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed chase.

According to Franklin County Sheriff Steve Thomas it happened Sunday on I-85 southbound when deputies tried to pull over a black Hyundai for traffic violations.

Officers activated blue lights and the vehicle refused to stop, the vehicle continued southbound at a high rate of speed, weaving in and out of traffic, passing vehicles and traffic on the right emergency lane.

The vehicle continued to Exit 166 where deputies continued the chase on Highway 106 north.

At that point, the suspect headed into Stephens County down Highway 106 at speeds of up to 107 mph.

Thomas said as the chase continued, the suspect threw a white substance out of the driver side window and continued to drive recklessly down 106.

Deputies did a PIT maneuver on the black Hyundai in front of New Hope Baptist Church.

They identified the driver as Derrick Jermaine Jackson, 23 of Monroe, North Carolina.

The vehicle was registered to N Holding LLC out of Columbia, SC.

The driver is charged with speeding, reckless driving, driving on a suspended license, and fleeing and attempting to elude.

Thomas said Jackson is also wanted in New Orleans and there is a hold on him for warrants out of Stephens County.

He remains in the Franklin County Detention Center.
