NGTC Currahee Campus to Celebrate 10th Anniversary

It’s hard to believe that only ten years ago North Georgia Technical College opened the doors to a brand new, state-of-the-art branch campus in Stephens County.  Known as the Currahee Campus, the facility is located on a 50-acre site in the Hayestone-Brady Industrial Park on Highway 17 between Toccoa and Lavonia.

In honor of this special milestone, North Georgia Technical College is planning a celebration in honor of the campus’s 10th Anniversary.  The drop-in reception is planned for Thursday, September 3, 2015, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm on the Currahee Campus, and the public is invited to attend.

With only a director and a skeleton crew of 8 faculty and staff members, classes began on the Currahee Campus on July 7, 2005. Initially, 101 students enrolled in classes at the new facility during that first Summer Quarter. At the time, no one could have predicted just how quickly enrollment would explode. Now, ten years later, the enrollment numbers have increased so significantly that a new wing was recently added to the campus to accommodate the growing number of students and the expansion of programs.

In addition to educational facilities, the Currahee Campus also provides the community with access to a conference area open to the public for meetings, social gatherings and even weddings and Senior Proms. And, the Culinary Arts class utilizes the conference area to serve the public once a week with a variety of creative menus.

“The Currahee Campus is very proud to be a part of this community, said Greg Roach, Currahee Campus Operations Director.  “While we focus on our primary mission of educating the local workforce, we strive to serve the community in a number of other ways. Our library is open to the public, and our conference center is available for use by the public as well as business and civic groups. We welcome everyone in the community to learn what the Currahee Campus has to offer and let us serve you for years to come!”
