Next Town Hall Public Forum, Saturday

Stephens County Board of Commissioners Chairman Michelle Ivester recently announced the date for the next Stephens County Town Hall Public Forum.

Held in the courtroom of the Stephens County Historic Courthouse, the forum is slated for Saturday, Aug. 18, and will begin promptly at 2 p.m.

All residents are encouraged to come out and express their concerns and give input regarding previous, current, and forthcoming topics discussed by the Board of Commissioners.

Ivester announced at the beginning of 2018, after being appointed to Chairman, that she would begin holding public forums, in order to hear from residents who may not be available to attend regularly scheduled county meetings; however, the town hall forums are not official meetings and no action will be taken.

During a previous town hall forum, concerned citizens addressed the county funded programs available to senior citizens.

Ivester explained that the senior citizens of Stephens County remain important to the commissioners.

“Senior citizens are at the top of our list of priorities, they’ve lived here most of their lives and they’ve paid their fair share in taxes, so it’s only fair that we take care of them,” Ivester said. “We will continue to see that they have things to do at the Senior Center.”

According to Ivester the Town Hall meetings, thus far, have been successful.

“I thought the turnout was great, especially with it being the first Town Hall we’ve had,” Ivester said. “There were a lot of great serious questions asked. I really hope that I was able to shed some light on most of the questions that people had.”

Again, the next town hall meeting will be held this Saturday, Aug. 18, at the Historic Courthouse, and will begin at 2 p.m.
