Naloxone Kit Placement Complete
At the Nov. 26 meeting of the Stephens County Board of Commissioners, representatives from Toccoa-based Self-Discovery 24 Recovery presented an update on a project funded by a portion of the county’s Opioid Settlement funds.
As reported on March 29, the Stephens County Board of Commissioners, at a meeting earlier that week, had approved a proposal by Self-Discovery 24 to provide kits containing doses of naloxone, which can reverse the effects of opioid related drug overdoses, to be placed at locations throughout the county. Commissioners approved the expenditure of $35,000 for the kits, with Self-Discovery 24 providing training in the use of the kits once they are placed.
Payment for the kits would be provided by the county, utilizing a portion of the funds received by the county as part of the opioid settlement funds.
County Manager Christian Hamilton told WNEG News at the time that the kits would likely be placed in county owned locations, such as the Recreation Center, but said the decision on where the kits would be placed will come after the kits are received and Self-Discovery-24 met again with Board Members to determine the final locations.
At the Board meeting earlier this week, Self-Discovery-24 representatives said the distribution of the kits had been slower than expected, but was progressing.
