Mullinix Pitches No-Hitter to Force Game Three

Cruz Mullinix pitched a no-hitter and the Stephens County offense banged out 11 hits to hold off elimination and take game two over Burke County 5-1 Wednesday night in the 2nd Round of the AAA baseball state playoffs in Waynesville.

Mullinix was outstanding pitching a complete game and striking out 10 while walking just 2.

Carson Worley led the Indians offensive attack with 4 hits and a RBI in the game. Jacob Pruitt added two hits as well as a RBI. The Indians also got RBI double’s from Patrick Murray and Mullinix, and Colby Fowler, Dylan White, and Craig Thurmond each had a hit.

It was a must win for the Indians after falling in game one 7-1. In game one, the Indians trailed early 2-0. The Indians cut the lead to 2-1 in the 5th inning when Ayden Garmon reached on an error and Mullinix had a RBI double to cut the lead to 2-1. The Bears would come back with a run in the bottom of the inning and 4 more runs in the 6th inning to seal the win.

Mullinix had three hits to lead the Indians offense in game one.

Garmon pitched well in the loss allowing just 6 hits in 6 and 1/3 innings and 8 strikeouts.

The Indians and Bears will meet for game three in Waynesboro in the series deciding game. Airtime is set for 5:15 P.M. tonight with first pitch scheduled for 5:30 P.M.

Elsewhere in the AAA playoffs Franklin County has advanced to the 3rd round sweeping Morgan County 10-0 and 5-1. Southeast Bulloch defeated Redan in game one, the winner of that series will meet the winner of Stephens-Burke. Harlem swept both games with Ringgold, Long County defeated Greater Atlanta Christian two games to one, and there will be deciding games today between North Hall and Appling County, Sonoraville and Pike County, and Cherokee Bluff and Pierce County.
