Mrs. Thelma Doris Wheeler Mitchell
Mrs. Thelma Doris Wheeler Mitchell, age 81 of Sarasota, FL, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 9, 2020.
A daughter of the late Toy and Thelma Jarrett Wheeler, she was born January 23, 1939 on her daddy’s 26th birthday. She was a graduate of Toccoa High School, Young Harris College and Georgia State College for Women. She taught math on a high school and college level for many years. While teaching in Albany, Georgia, she met the love of her life, Richard Mitchell, to whom she was married for 55 years. She was a member of the Church of the Redeemer Episcopal Church in Sarasota, Florida. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a nephew, Devin Wheeler.
Doris leaves behind the Love of her Life, Richard Mitchell; daughter, Anitra (George)Bornheimer of Palos Verdes, CA; son, Brandon Mitchell of Quincy, Florida; grandchildren, Alexis and George Bornheimer, II and Mary Ryan Mitchell. Her grandchildren were the light of her life and brought her so much joy. She also leaves behind her faithful companion dog, Hershey. Local survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Dwight and Rhonda Wheeler and sister, Julia Lacount; numerous nieces and nephews and cousins and a special cousin who she grew up with and remained close, Forrest (Kay) Wheeler of King Mountain, North Carolina.
Doris was truly one of a kind and her infectious laughter and spirit filled a room with happiness. She will be dearly missed by many, her love and kindness never forgotten.
Her wishes were to be cremated and her inurnment was at Sarasota National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
National Cremation and Burial Society in Sarasota, Florida was in charge of her arrangements.
