Mrs. Sara Powers Smith

Mrs. Sara Powers Smith, age 94, of Eastanollee, GA, passed away Friday, October 9, 2020 at Stephens County Hospital.

 

Born May 5, 1926 in Toccoa, she was the daughter of the late Arnold Dean and Elzie Cheek Powers.  She was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church for over 70 years and was presently a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.  She was a former Associational WMU Director, Associational G. A. Director, Sunday School Director, and Sunday School Teacher.  Sara was a 1943 graduate of Toccoa High School and also a graduate of Knoxville Business College.  She was retired from Kmart. Sara was instrumental and very supportive of the Toccoa Farmers Market, and she also volunteered at Stephens County Historical Museum.

 

Family members include her daughters and a son-in-law, Teresa “Terri” Beasley of Eastanollee and Victoria “Vicki” and Everett Coker of Toccoa; son and daughter-in-law, David B. and Jennifer Smith of Toccoa; grandchildren, Chris and Ashle Doud, Rachel and Clint Sanders, Paul and Melissa Akins, Sharon Coker, Scott Coker, Jason Coker, and Tyler Smith; and her sister and brother-in-law, Ora Faith and Bill Hall of Knoxville, TN; several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Buren Harold Smith; her sister, Margaret Summerville; and her brothers, John (J. M.) Powers and Harry Powers.

 

Funeral services will be held at two o’clock Monday, October 12, 2020 from the Chapel of Whitlock Mortuary with the Rev. Andy Childs and Mr. Ray Whiten officiating.  Burial will follow at Liberty Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.  The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers; Chris Doud, Paul Akins, Grady Sanders, Tyler Smith, Clint Sanders, and Everett Coker.

 

The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 12:30 pm until the service on Monday.

 

Due to the conditions concerning the health and well-being of our community, the family would appreciate those attending the service to wear a mask and to practice social distancing. 

 

Flowers are optional.  Those desiring may make memorial donations to Ebenezer Baptist Church Missions Fund.
