Mrs. Mary Carter Thompson Cheshire

Mrs. Mary Carter Thompson Cheshire, age 86 of Atlanta, Georgia passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia.

She was born June 3, 1936 in Asheville, North Carolina to parents William Felton Adams and Bathsheba Kesler Adams and later adopted by her uncle and aunt, Gibbs and Icie Adams Carter.  She attended Georgia College of Milledgeville majoring in English.  She was a member of First Baptist Church in Atlanta.  She was employed with Neiman Marcus for over 10 years, a member of the Atlanta Music Club, active in the Atlanta Opera and volunteered as a Pink Lady at Piedmont Hospital for 25 years. In addition to her birth parents and adopted parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Ralph Cheshire, by her twin sister and her husband, Emily Carter Hill and Levi W. Hill, III and by sisters, Sara Williams and Betty Selkie.

She is survived by her children, Marianne Thea Thompson of Valdosta, Georgia, Tarkenton Newton Thompson of Atlanta, Carter Maria Thompson of Jacksonville, Florida and Melvin Ernest (Tracy Oosterman) Thompson, III of Atlanta; grandson, Taylor Anthony Vallejo of Crawfordville, Florida; niece, Emily Carter Ross (William); nephew, Levi W. Hill, IV (Elsie) and six nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Thursday, September 1, 2022, 2 o’clock p.m. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend Roger Elrod officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the service time at 2 p.m.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.

Interment will follow in the Toccoa City Cemetery with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Mary Carter Thompson Cheshire.
