Mrs. Evelyn Veale Wills

Our dear Mother, Evelyn V. Wills of Toccoa, GA died at the age of 94 on June 02, 2023 after a long and full life.  She was born in Oconee County, GA to HL and Odessa Veale. She was the oldest of three children.  When she was 4, her family moved to TyTy GA.  She was very loved and will be missed terribly.  She was a wonderful Wife, Mother and Nannie who was always there when we needed her.  She was a talented seamstress, enjoyed quilting, crocheting, working in her flower beds, gardening, canning and best of all loved cooking for her family.  She loved animals, especially her many Chihuahuas through the years and her cats.  She even had a pet squirrel.

She started working with Coats & Clark’s in Albany, GA in the early 50’s where she met our dad, James Robert Wills, Sr.   It was love at first sight for him.  They married in 1952 and started their family in 1955.  They lived in Albany, GA until 1973 and transferred with Coats & Clark’s to Jamesville, NC and Newport News, VA until being transferred to Toccoa, GA in 1987.  She retired in 1991.  She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Toccoa, GA.

She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, JR Wills, Sr.; her parents HL and Odessa Veale; her sister, Hazel and brother-in-law Frank; sisters-in-law, Mildred W. Veale and Martha June Wills; and a nephew, Ricky Veale.

She is survived by her children, James R. (Bobby)Wills, Jr (Vivian), Susan W. Barber (Tim) and Charles S. Wills (Sandra).  She has one granddaughter, Brandi Heard; as well as her step-grandchildren, Sonya Speed, Jason Long, and Scotty Carter.  She has six great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; brother, Lawrence Veale; brother-in-law, Howard Wills; and nieces and nephews that she loved like her own.

The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 2:00 pm until the service at 3:00 pm.

A Celebration of Life will be held at three o’clock Monday, June 05, 2023 from the Chapel of Whitlock Mortuary with the Rev. David Sosebee and the Rev. Jerrell Beatty officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.

Almighty God, we rejoice in your promise of love, joy and peace. In your mercy turn the darkness of death into the dawn of new life, and the sorrow of parting into the joy of heaven; through our Saviour Jesus Christ, who died, rose again and lives for evermore.
