Mr. Sherman Chaney Payne

Mr. Sherman Chaney Payne, 61, of Carnesville, GA, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, October 6, 2019, at his home.

Mr. Payne was born on December 7, 1957 in Toccoa, GA, son of the late George Lee Payne and the late Bonnie Sue Cobb Payne. He was Captain of Investigations with the Hart County Sheriff’s Department and served in law enforcement for 38 years. Mr. Payne was a member of the Toccoa Masonic Lodge and the Royston Church of God.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Haskell Payne and Dennis Payne; and sisters, Daphene Barrett and Delores Shelton.

Survivors include his wife, Deborah June Hambrick Payne; sons, Cory Payne of Martin, GA, Kyle Payne and Wade Dutton both of Carnesville, GA; daughter and son-in-law, April and J.R. McKissick of Fort Payne, AL; grandchildren, Davis Dutton, Summer McKissick and Walker McKissick; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Payne will be held in the Royston Church of God at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 9, 2019, with Rev. James Gunn and Rev. Eddie Wiggins officiating. Interment will follow in the Franklin Memorial Gardens-North.

The family will receive friends at Pruitt Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening. The family is at the home.
