Mr. O L Agnew

Mr. O L Agnew, age 93, of Toccoa passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at The Overlook Toccoa.

A son of the late Moses Agnew and Lola Thomas Agnew, he was born, October 10, 1932, in Lavonia, Georgia, having lived the greater part of his life in Stephens County, Georgia.  He was a Veteran and Purple Heart Recipient of the U.S. Army, who honorably served from 1952 through 1956, including a combat tour in Korea. He was a an independent truck driver and was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church.

His greatest joy was being with people he loved and sharing stories about the war and his childhood years.  He will forever live in the hearts of those that were blessed to have known him.  He is reunited with his parents, his wife Joyce Agnew, daughter, Sheila Coalley, sisters Joann Agnew and Frances Fitzgerald and brothers, Ben Agnew and Ray Agnew.

He is survived by his son, David Agnew of Toccoa; daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Wayne Maxwell of Lavonia; granddaughters, Stephanie Coalley Chavis (Michael) of Toccoa, Miranda Minter of Clarkesville and Amy Fulghum of Athens; great-grandchildren, Shealia Chavis, Logan Fulghum, Niklaus Chavis and Colson Chavis; sisters, Helen Agnew (Jim Biwer) and Loretta Phillips both of Athens.

Funeral services will be Sunday, March 29, 2026, 3 p.m. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend George Dean officiating.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, from 1 p.m. until the service time at 3 p.m.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.

The family wishes to express thanks to a special caregiver and friend, Candy Yearwood, for her care and compassion.

Flowers are optional.  Mr. Agnew asked that the chain of love be kept going, whether through a gift of money, food, time or a kind word in his honor.

Entombment will follow in the Stephens Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with Military Honors by the U.S. Army Honor Guard and the V.F.W. Post 4346 Honor Guard.
