Mr. Gary Jones Jarrett
Gary Jones Jarrett, age 81 of Toccoa passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center surrounded by his family.
The son of the late Maka Jones Jarrett and Walter Morris Jarrett, He was born November 11, 1942 in Stephens County, Georgia where he lived the great majority of his life. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, James Walter Jarrett, Donald Deveraux Jarrett, and Michael Doyle Jarrett and an infant sister DeAnna Jarrett.
Gary attended the Toccoa public schools and graduated from Toccoa High school with the class of 1960. He was a 1964 graduate of Presbyterian College with a BS degree in Biology and a member of Phi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Gary was first employed with the Georgia Health Department as a Microbiologist and later as the head of Microbiology at McGaw Laboratories in Milledgeville, Georgia. Gary and his family returned to Toccoa where he began a partnership with his father-in-law, Frank Davis at Acree-Davis Funeral Home. He graduated from Gupton Jones College of Funeral Service obtaining his embalming and funeral directors’ license.
Gary was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church where he was a deacon, elder, and chairman of finance. The last few years he was a member of the First Methodist Church. Gary served on the boards of Stephens Federal Bank, Salvation Army Board, and the Historical Society Board. In addition, he was a member of Toccoa Masonic Lodge #309 for 45 years and the Toccoa Kiwanis Club where he served as president.
Gary was a devoted and loving husband, an adoring father, and the best granddaddy to his three grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time at the cabin on Lake Yonah and loved watching Alabama football. He was a good friend to all and never met a stranger. Throughout Gary’s life, he served the community faithfully with compassion and had a special way of helping others. It was an honor for him to assist and comfort loved ones in times of grief and loss. The care Gary gave to others was a testament of his character and will always be remembered.
He is survived by his wife of the home, Fran Davis Jarrett; two daughters Laura Jarrett Whitworth (Barry) and Elizabeth Jarrett Scott (Doug), and one son Henry “Hank” Stovall Jarrett all of Toccoa; three grandchildren, Steven Whitworth, Sarah Whitworth and Jarrett Scott; sisters-in-law, Doris Jarrett and Judy Jarrett Rice; a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at 11 o’clock a.m. at Toccoa Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. John Brown and the Reverend Jerrell Beatty officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers and should meet at the funeral home by 10:00 a.m., Doug Scott, Barry Whitworth, Steven Whitworth, Jarrett Scott, Brent Jarrett, Donald Jarrett, Walter Jarrett and Jimmy Jarrett. The staff of Acree-Davis Funeral Home will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Monday, September 30, 2024 2 until 4 p.m. and 6 until 8 p.m. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com

Entombment will be in Stephens Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Gary Jones Jarrett.
