Mr. David Wade Herron

Mr. David Wade Herron, age 94, of Eastanollee, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2025 surrounded by his loving family, at his home.
Born February 1, 1931 in Carnesville, GA, he was a son of the late Frank and Viola Rumsey Herron.  He was a self-employed farmer all of his life and he was the happiest when he was working on the farm.  Mr. Herron was also a member of Tom’s Creek Baptist Church and served in the National Guard.  He was inducted into the Stephens County Agriculture Hall of Fame in 2016 in recognition of his dedication and commitment to the Agricultural Industry.  He was recognized as Cattleman of the Year with the Stephens County Farm Bureau in 2010.  He was recognized in 2009 by the Stephens County Cattlemen’s Association, UGA Extension, as Cattleman of the Year for his contributions to the cattle Industry.  In 2009, he was presented a plaque in appreciation for his service to the Stephens County Farm Bureau and Agriculture and was also presented a plaque for his distinguished service to the Stephens County Chapter of the Future Farmers of America.
Family members include two daughters and sons-in-law, LaDonna H. Benton (Jim) of McDonough, GA and Phyllis H. Collins (Wendell) of Eastanollee; grandchildren, David Benton of McDonough, Wendi Bowen (Jeff) of Eastanollee, and Laura Traudt (Peter) of Eastanollee; a sister, Diana Griswold of Hartwell; four great-grandchildren, Samuel Traudt, Jacob Traudt, Emily Traudt, and Hannah Traudt, all of Eastanollee; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his wife, Betty Jane Voyles Herron; and three siblings, Frederick Herron, Kathryn Rumsey, and Pat Henry.
The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 5pm – 8pm Friday, April 4, 2025.  Mr. Herron will also lie in state at Tom’s Creek Baptist Church from 1pm until the service time on Saturday.
Funeral services will be held at two o’clock Saturday, April 5, 2025 at Tom’s Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Marcus officiating.  Entombment will be in Tom’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
