Mr. Dan Lester Steele
Mr. Dan Lester Steele, age 84, of Toccoa, passed away Monday, January 19, 2026 at Stephens County Hospital.
Born on November 1, 1941 in Toccoa, he was the son of the late Ottis and Willie Ruth “Bill” Whiten Steele and was the widower of Jean Cheek Steele, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Keller Cheek.
Mr. Steele was employed with Patterson Pump for 34 years having retired as Vice President. He was active in the community having served a term on the Stephens County Board of Education, also terms as President of Little League, President of the Booster Club, and President of the Senior League. He was a United States Army Veteran. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and the VFW. Dan was a proud member of the Toccoa First Baptist Church. He loved his children, grandchildren, and in-laws. He was a Humble Man who loved Life itself.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Kelly Dan and Elizabeth Jean Steele; granddaughters, Kelsey Jean Steele and Kensley Alexis Steele; grandson and spouse, Sammy and Cici Wingo-Steele; great-granddaughter, Zyla Rae Wingo; sister, Ruth Meeks and niece Julie Ann Mitchell; brother, Sam Steele; son-in-law, Tony Looney, and first-cousin and care taker for the past 18 years, Judy Whitehead.
In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his daughter, Kerry Steele Looney and his grandson, Garrett Daniel Looney.
The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 5pm – 7pm Wednesday, January 28, 2026.
Funeral services will be held at eleven o’clock Thursday, January 29, 2026 at the Toccoa First Baptist Church with The Rev. Jerrell Beatty and Mr. Kelly Dan Steele officiating.
Graveside services will follow at Stephens Memorial Gardens with Military Honors provided by the United States Army.
