Mr. Charles Wayne Martin

Mr. Charles Wayne Martin, age 74 of Carnesville went to his heavenly home on June 3, 2023.

Born December 29, 1948, he was the eldest son of the late Robert and Mary Neal Martin.  After graduation from Franklin County High School, he enrolled and graduated from Greenleaf Business College and Southeastern School of Broadcasting in Atlanta.  He was an Army Veteran and served in the National Guard for six years.

For several years, he was a prominent voice in the Northeast Georgia area as a broadcaster for WLET Radio Station in Toccoa.  In 1969, he married the love of his life Connie and they were blessed with one son, Jonathan.

He was a successful businessman, where he along with Connie, and later with the help of Jonathan, owned and operated Radio Shack Stores in Toccoa, Clayton, Lavonia and Cornelia.  In 2014, he retired from retail and returned to the farm where he lived and grew up.  He was a cattle farmer and truly loved farm life.  Wayne was the patriarch of his family whom he dearly loved, and could always be counted on to lend a helping hand and good advice.

He had a great passion for flying and was an astute pilot. He spent many happy hours flying and co-piloting with his son Jonathan.

He felt missions were where he was needed to serve the Lord.  He had helped and worked with several churches helping start youth programs, which was his passion. Wayne was a Christian gentleman, loved and admired by many, and will be sorely missed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lois and Dempsey Bellamy of Toccoa and his brother-in-law, Sonny Gipson of Carnesville.

Left to grieve his passing is his wife of 53 years, Connie Martin, his son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan and Missy Martin and grandchildren, Avonlea and Corbin; sister, Juanita Gipson, brother, Mike (Teresa) Martin and Bobby (Marie) Martin all of Carnesville; his aunt and uncle, Ruth and Jackson Pitts of Toccoa along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of his life will be held Wednesday, June 7, 2023, 2 o’clock p.m. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with his long-time pastor and friend, The Reverend Don Swords and his cousin, The Reverend Larry Davison officiating.  Honored to serve as pallbearers will be his two nephews, Mark Gipson, Kyle Martin, cousin, Brian Pitts, and good friends, Gary Jones, Gary Haygood and Terry Metcalf.  Austin Martin and Clif Snuffin will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Tuesday, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Wednesday, noon until the service time.   Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.  Entombment will follow in the Stephens Memorial Mausoleum with Military Honors by the Georgia National Guard Honor Guard and the V.F.W.
