Mr. Arvil Mize
Mr. Arvil Mize, age 96 of Skyline Drive, Toccoa passed away Monday, February 2, 2026, surrounded by his family.
A son of the late Luther Mize and Ethel Tomlin Mize Hill, he was born July 5, 1929, in Stephens County, Georgia where he had lived all his life. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, retiring in October 1973 with 24 years of service. During his military career, he served in Germany, Korea and three tours in Vietnam. He was a member of Tates Creek Baptist Church. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and plowing gardens for others, splitting his firewood and cooking in his smokehouse.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Howard Mize, brothers, Herbert William Mize and Arlin Mize, sister, Violet Mize and sons-in-law, A.J. Miness, Buren Crunkleton and Jerry Kelley.
He is survived by three daughters, Patricia Crunkleton of Eastanollee, Teresa Kelley and Cookie Sheppard both of Toccoa; son and daughter-in-law, Dwain and Gail Mize of Toccoa; grandchildren, Angie McGee, Jennifer McCollum, Michael and Brandi Mize, Neal and Kristen Sheppard and Matt and Jamie Mize; great-grandchildren, Allyson McCollum, Dejanea McGee, Rachel McCollum, Ryan McCollum, Austin Mize, Cole Mize, Raegan Mize, Brady Sheppard and Bryson Whiten; brother, Robert Mize of Demorest, Georgia; a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday, February 6, 2026, 2 p.m. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend Jerrell Beatty officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Neal Sheppard, Brady Sheppard, Ryan McCollum, Michael Mize, Austin Mize and Cole Mize. Bradley McCollum and Sam Cash will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Friday from noon until the service time. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.
Interment will follow in the Zebulon Baptist Church Cemetery with Full Military Honors by the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Acree-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Arvil Mize.
