Mr. Alton Herron
Mr. Alton Howell Herron, Sr., age 87, of Toccoa passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 27, 2025 at his home with his family by his side.
Born March 19, 1938 in Franklin County, GA, he was the son of the late A. B. Herron, Jr. and Tina Fuller Herron.
Mr. Herron was a graduate of Stephens County High School. He worked at Toccoa Casket Company and retired from Drilling and Blasting, Incorporated. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #309 for over 50 years. He served in the National Guard Army Reserve. He loved the Lord and was a dedicated Christian, serving as Deacon and Trustee at Zebulon Baptist Church for many years. He was a current member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. Mr. Herron was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who loved family, music, laughing and traveling.
Family members include his wife of 65 years, Faye Whitfield Herron.
Son, Alton Howell Herron, Jr. (Hal and Dana) and family: grandchild, Alton Howell Herron, III (Howell and Carrie); and great-grandchildren, Alton Howell Herron, IV “Court” and Mary Caroline Herron.
Daughter, Lynn Kesler (Bryan) and family: grandchildren, Corey Roberts (Renae), Connor Roberts (Maria) and Cole Roberts; and great-grandchildren, Sarah Roberts, Anna Roberts, Madelyn Roberts and Emily Faye Roberts.
Son, Chad Herron (Renee) and family: grandchildren, Walker Herron and Ally Herron.
Twin brother, Allan Herron; and many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Audrey Simmons and Brenda Adams; and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 6pm – 8pm Thursday, July 31, 2025.
Funeral services will be held at two o’clock Friday, August 1, 2025 at Ebenezer Baptist Church with the Rev. Ricky McFarlin and Dr. Jamie Smith officiating.
Burial will follow at Stephens Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are: Howell Herron, Corey Roberts, Connor Roberts, Cole Roberts, Walker Herron, and Brad Whitfield. The Earl Rochester Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Flowers are optional. Memorial donations may be made to Zebulon Baptist Church, 1083 W. Currahee Street, Toccoa, GA 30577.
The family would like to thank his caregivers, Susie Adams, Rebekah Adams and Jan Cason, the staff of Amedisys Hospice, Northeast Georgia Medical Center, and all the family and friends who visited Mr. Herron.
