Miss Laura Louise Cheely “Kimsey”

Miss Laura Louise Cheely “Kimsey”, age 70 of N. Oak Street, Toccoa passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at Pruitt Health Toccoa.

Laura was born October 31, 1951 in Fulton County, Georgia having lived in Stephens County most of her life.  She came to live with Nell and Joe Kimsey, her foster parents when she was only a year old.  She called herself an artist and loved to draw pictures and paint by numbers.  She also enjoyed crocheting and doing latch hook and loved Wendy’s Frosty and Dairy Queen Sundae. She was a member of Hill Street Baptist Church and it was there that she led someone to the Lord.  She had many friends and relatives that helped look after her.  She always had a smile for everyone and she especially enjoyed going to the Senior Center in Toccoa.  She was preceded in death by her foster parents, Nell Richie Kimsey and Joseph Kimsey and by a foster sister, Jean Newman.

Survivors include a foster sister, Floye Smith and her husband Boyd of Toccoa and their children, Chad and Doreen Smith and Olivia Smith; Max Newman of Spartanburg; sister, Jeannie Hill of Atlanta; niece and cousins,  Jill and Mac Judy and their children, John David, Joseph and Anna Judy, Joyce Youngblood and Alan Youngblood.

Funeral services will be Thursday, January 20, 2022, 1 O’clock p.m. in the State Room of Acree-Davis Funeral Home with family and friends  and The Reverend Billy Burrell officiating.  The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Kim Norton, Randy Shirley, Larry Poole, Alan Youngblood, Joseph Judy and John David Judy.

The family will received friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Thursday from 12:30 p.m. until time for the service.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.

Interment will follow in the Toccoa City Cemetery with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory in charge of the arrangements for Miss Laura Louise Cheely “Kimsey”.
