Mayor, Vice Mayor to be selected Police Chief Confirmed at City Meeting Tonight
The Toccoa City Commission will meet at 5 p.m. today for a regularly scheduled meeting. The meeting will take place at City Hall, 92 N. Alexander Street.
At Tonight’s meeting, commissioners are expected to select the Mayor and Vice Mayor for 2025, as well announce 2025 appointments of the city manager, city clerk, city chaplain and municipal judge.
On the agenda for the meeting is consideration of the confirmation of Bruce Carlisle as Toccoa Chief of Police. As reported by WNEG News, Carlisle was announced as the sole finalist out of nearly 20 applicants for the position following interviews last month, with the city’s announcement of their plan to hire Carlisle coming on Nov. 19.
Also on the agenda for today’s meeting are consideration of Alcohol Beverage License Renewals. As agenda documentation has not been made available for the meeting as of 6 a.m. this morning, WNEG News cannot provide a list of licenses being considered for renewal, nor provide details on the remainder of the agenda items.
Commissioners will be considering appointments to the Planning Commission, Housing Authority, Downtown Development Authority and Airport Authority. They will also hear the second reading of an ordinance enacting a false alarm policy for the fire department. As previously reported by WNEG News, Assistant Toccoa Fire Chief Frankie Dietz pointed out to City officials that responding to false alarms puts firefighters and the public at risk of injury, and added that the city fire department responds to an average of 85 false alarms per year. The Fire Department requested city officials enact a nuisance alarm ordinance similar to the one already in effect for the county. Under the proposed ordinance, three false calls would be allowed during a calendar year, with a progressive fine imposed for each additional alarm. The fines noted in the draft ordinance are $300 for the 4th fire alarm at a location in a calendar year, $400 for the 5th, and $500 for the 6th and subsequent.
Also on the agenda is consideration of the Animal Control Officer Intergovernmental Agreement with Stephens COunty, consideration of authorization for the Toccoa Creek Water Pollution Control Plant, or WPCP Project, consideration of the Georgia Department of Transportation Phase II utility-Air request approval, consideration of a revised 2024 Alum Sludge Removal agreement, and the monthly city financial report.
Members of the public are invited to attend the meeting, and are welcome to address commissioners during the Public Comment section of the meeting. Contact information for commissioners is available attached to this story on wnegradio.com.
