Martha Carolyn Watson

Martha Carolyn Watson peacefully rejoined her husband, Rodney Watson, at the age of 81 on November 24, 2025.

Carolyn was born in Cuthbert, Georgia, on March 31, 1944, the oldest daughter of Aubrey Wilson Rogers and Martha Rogers. Technically, she was born on March 30th within the United States, but because her father was stationed in the Philippines during WWII, the hospital honored a March 31stbirthdate—the date in the Philippines at her time of birth, and her parents’ wedding anniversary.

Carolyn was one of two daughters and grew up in Toccoa, Georgia, where she attended Toccoa High School and later Young Harris College.

In 1963, Carolyn married George Rodney Watson at the First Baptist Church of Toccoa. They spent their early years together in Doraville and Marietta, Georgia, before returning to Toccoa. In 1984, the family moved to St. Simons Island, eventually retiring once more in Toccoa. Rodney and Carolyn raised three boys—Jay, Philip, and Mark.

Carolyn served as a Cub Scout Den Mother, worked as an optometrist in both Toccoa and St. Simons Island, and later became the evening Housekeeping Supervisor for The Cloister Hotel on Sea Island, Georgia. Above all, she was the heart of the family. She expertly juggled the busy schedules of baseball, football, basketball, and countless other activities, ensuring her boys had every opportunity to be involved. She was known for her constant smile and her unwavering devotion to her family. Carolyn and Rodney endured life’s challenges together, and in the end, their bond proved unbreakable.

Carolyn is survived by her sister, Audrey Belk, and her husband, Ben, along with their children, Chad and Kimberly. She is also survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law:  Jay and Traci Watson of Winder, Georgia, Philip and Doogie Watson of Brunswick, Georgia and Mark and Jourdain Watson of Brunswick, Georgia.  Carolyn leaves behind six grandchildren: Davis (child of Jay and Traci), Thao-Nhi, Ian, and Liam (children of Philip and Doogie), and Collier and Cooper (children of Mark and Jourdain).

Funeral services will be held in the Hillcrest Chapel of Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Sunday, December 7, 2025, 3:00 pm with The Reverend Brett Sanders officiating. Pallbearers will be Jay Watson, Philip Watson, Mark Watson, Davis Watson, Ian Watson, and Liam Watson.

The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Sunday, December 7, 2025, from 12:00 pm until 3 pm. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the First Baptist Church of Toccoa, Georgia Food Ministries, 475 E. Tugalo Street, Toccoa, Georgia 30577 in memory of Martha Carolyn Watson.

Private family interment will follow in the Stephens Memorial Gardens with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory in charge of the arrangements for Martha Carolyn Watson.
