Marie Elaine Keranen

Marie Elaine Keranen, 92, of the Sunshine Community, passed away Friday evening,
January 14, 2022.

Born October 6, 1929, in Hartford CT, she was the daughter of the late Charles and
Elizabeth Mitchell Jabuiak. She was the mother of the late Michele Keranen, and the
sister of the late Charles Jakubiak. She was a homemaker and a graduate of St Joseph
College. Elaine spent much of her life in New England. She performed secretarial work
in the Naval Reserves for four years in Connecticut before meeting her husband. They
started their family in the south and then returned to New England to raise their children.
Elaine was a devoted mother to their six children, modeling for them love, generosity,
and kindness to everyone. She always loved the ocean and spent her retirement years
close to the beach in Conway, SC. She was a life-time devotee of the Catholic faith,
including membership at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Burlington, Vermont, the
Catholic Church in Conway, South Carolina, and Saint Mary’s Catholic Church of
Toccoa, Georgia.

Survivors include her children, Victor Keranen of Bremerton, WA; Astarte Keranen and
Steve Hilderbrand of Seattle, WA; Konrad and Dana Keranen of Toccoa, GA; Aline and
Jeffery Taylor of Toccoa, GA; Reina Keranen of Myrtle Beach, SC; 9 Grandchildren and 9
Great Grandchildren.

Services will be Friday morning, at 11am at St Mary’s Catholic Church of Toccoa, with
Father Henry Thang Pham. Interment will be at Toccoa City Cemetery.
The body is at the Ginn Funeral Home. The family is at their home. The family request
that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to Saint Mary’s Catholic Church of
Toccoa.
