Local sports update – 9/24
Football
The Stephens County Middle School Rebels football team will try to complete an undefeated regular season this Thursday as they travel to Hartwell to take on Hart County. With a win Thursday, Stephens County would secure the number 1 seed for the Region playoffs . The Rebels are 5 & 0 for the first time since 2018 after defeating Rabun County last Thursday in a home game, 48 to 6. Peanut Arthur and Kaiden Harbin each had 2 rushing touchdowns and 2 two-point conversion runs for the Rebels. Dallas Hague added a rushing touchdown and a 71 yard kickoff return for a touchdown, and Cashus Roebuck added a rushing touchdown and a 2-point conversion. Ka’Runte Riley led the defense with 6 tackles and an interception; Peanut Arthur had 5 tackles; and Seth Fulbright had 3 tackles and a fumble recovery. Stephens County Head Coach Matt Miller said it was a total team effort by the Rebels. Kickoff this Thursday at Hart County will be at 5:30 p.m.
Volleyball:
The Stephens County Lady Indians Volleyball Team played at Commerce last Thursday and picked up a win over the Tigers. After losing the first game, 25 to 22, the Lady Indians came back and won the next 2 games, 25 to 22 and 16 to 14. The Lady Indians also played East Jackson and recorded a loss – after losing the first game, 25 to 8, they won the second, 25 to 23, but lost the final game, 15 to 8. Stephens County will be back in action tonight, Sept. 24, at East Jackson against the Lady Eagles and Prince Avenue.
