Lions take Both Games with Indians

It was a double-header victory for the Franklin County Lions and Lady Lions Friday night at the Currahee Arena. Both the Franklin County girls’ and boys’ teams took home wins.
Nykhia Johnson’s 21 points led the Lady Lions to a 75-49 win over the Stephens County Lady Indians. Elizabeth Stratton had 11 points for Franklin County, and Kallie Thrift contributed 10 points.
The Lady Indians did have three players in double figures. Ivey Jackson led the Lady Indians with 14 points, while Sage Weckesser had 12 points and Nesie Verdell chipped in with 11 points.
The loss gave the Lady Indians a 7-12 record this season and 1-4 in Region 8AA. Franklin County is now 8-12, but they are 4-1 in the region.
The Franklin County Lions’ boys team jumped out to a 22-4 first-period lead and never looked back, winning 66-53. Bentley and Hudson Huff both scored 17 points, and Nave Ware had 14 points.
The Indians’ Colsen Ivey led all scorers with 20 points. Isiah Patterson had a good game with 13 points for Stephens County.
The Friday night loss left the Stephens County boys with a record of 4-16 overall and 1-4 in region play. The Franklin County boys are 13-7 overall and 4-1 in the region.
The Indians and Lady Indians are on the road Tuesday night, February 2, at East Jackson. Game time is 6 p.m., and air time on WNEG will be at 5:45 p.m.
