Late Shot Lifts Franklin To Basketball Sweep Over Stephens

Micah Roebuck hit a three-point shot with 2.8 seconds left in the game to propel the Franklin County Lions to a come-from-behind 69-67 win over Stephens County in boys’ basketball Saturday night in Toccoa.

The Indians led by double figures for much of the third quarter, but Franklin County slowly chipped away at the lead and took the lead in the final minute before Nigel Green scored to put the Indians back in front before Roebuck’s shot.

Ty Nails and Nigel Green each had 18 points for Stephens County, while Chris Sinclair added 10 points.

Titus Brown had 18 points to lead the Lions, while Roebuck scored 17 and Malique Combs scored 16 points.

With the loss, Stephens County falls to 11-6 on the season and Franklin County moves to 9-7 with the win.

In the girls’ game, Franklin County pulled away in the fourth quarter on the way to a 43-28 win over the Lady Indians.

NaNa Eades led Stephens County with 11 points and Kiki Howard scored nine. Bailee Breedlove scored 27 points to lead Franklin County, and Ellie Verner added 10.

The loss drops the Lady Indians to 4-12 on the season, and Franklin County moves to 11-5 with the win.

Stephens County is back in action against Oconee County on Friday at home in a region contest. Tip-off for the girls’ game is 7 p.m. with the boys’ game to follow.
