Lady Indians take win over Oconee County, 6-2

Stephens County Lady Indian softball team captured a big region win over Oconee County 6 to 2 on Thursday in Watkinsville.

Stephens County opened up the scoring in the first inning when Emma Whitfield’s sacrifice fly scored one run.  The Lady Indians put up four runs in the fourth inning.  Laney McGee, Tyra Hunter, and Whitfield powered the big inning with RBIs.  Whitfield led Stephens County to victory in the pitcher’s circle. She lasted seven innings, allowing seven hits and two runs while striking out four and no walks.  Stephens County’s s Jasmine Lowery hit a home run in the sixth inning.  The Lady Indians collected 13 hits total, led by Lowery and Hunter with three hits each.

Stephens County improves to 11 & 7 overall and 4 & 3 in the region.  They’ll be back in action Saturday in the Ram Classic Tournament at Loganville, playing West Laurens at 3 and Loganville at 5:30.  Stephens County returns home Monday when they host Hart County in a non-region contest. 93.1 FM & AM-630 WNEG will broadcast that game with airtime at 5:45.
