Lady Indians Take the Win in Game One Last Thursday, Home Opener Schedueld For Today

Kylee Glaze drove in five runs on one hit to lead Stephens County Varsity Indians past Commerce 12-3 on Thursday. Glaze hit a grand slam to center field in the fifth inning, scoring four runs, and sacrifice bunted in the second inning, scoring one.

An error put Stephens County Varsity Indians on the board in the top of the first.

Stephens County Varsity Indians added one run in the second. Glaze laid down a sacrifice bunt, making the score 2-0.

Stephens County Varsity Indians scored two runs in the top of the third on a home run to center field by Nyleigh Hutto.

Stephens County Varsity Indians added six more runs in the top of the fifth inning on three hits. An error scored one run, Maddison McGee hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Glaze hit a grand slam to center field.

Stephens County Varsity Indians scored one run in the top of the sixth on a solo home run to left field by Carley Funderburke.

Riley Walker earned the win for Stephens County Varsity Indians. The starting pitcher allowed one hit and zero runs over five innings, striking out eight and walking four. Brooklyn Nunley took the loss for Commerce. The starting pitcher went four and one-third innings, giving up eight runs (three earned) on six hits, striking out none and walking three. Bailee Shedd appeared in relief for Stephens County Varsity Indians.

McGee and Hallee Shirley each collected two hits for Stephens County Varsity Indians. Shirley stole two bases.

Kaylee Purvis, Brooklyn Harbin, Vee Williams, Addy Grace Martin, and Camden Thomason each collected one hit for Commerce. Nunley, Purvis, and Martin each drove in one run for Commerce. Commerce had patience at the plate, accumulating five walks for the game. Commerce turned one double play in the game.

The J-V Lady Indians also won over Commerce, 15 to 0.

The Lady Indians will have their home opener today, August 5, as they host Elbert County.  First pitch in the JV game will take place at 4:30 p.m., with the Varsity game following at 6:30 p.m.
