Lady Indians Take Region Title

The Stephens County Lady Indians used crisp ball movement, a stifling defense, and may have played their most complete game of the season, rolling to a 67-42 victory over East Jackson in the Region-8 AAA Championship Friday night at Currahee Arena.

The Lady Indians led 18-7 after the opening quarter, 34-15 at the half, and by 20 points after three quarters. The Lady Indians made 5-3 pointers in the first half.

Kiki Howard led the Lady Indians with 26 points, and Ranajah Verdell added 18. Verdell also surpassed the 1,000 points scored mark in her high school career joining her senior teammate NaNa Eades accomplishment.

East Jackson, now 10-6 on the season, was led by Marissa Thomas with 17 points. The Lady Eagles will host Sandy Creek on Tuesday in the AAA State Playoffs.

As the Region-8 #1 seed, Stephens County, now 17-6 on the season, will host Redan, the #4 seed from Region-5 on Tuesday at 6 P.M. at Currahee Arena. Redan has a record of 10-8.
