Lady Indians Softball Run Ends in Columbus

The Stephens County Lady Indians Softball playoff run came to an end Friday falling to Sonoraville 7-3 in the AA State Playoffs in Columbus.

The Lady Indians got off to a great start grabbing a 2-0 lead in the 3rd inning when Madyson Willson singled and scored on Hallee Shirley’s RBI triple. Fayeth Ivester then delivered a sacrifice fly to score Shirley.

The Phoenix tied the score with two of their own in the top of the 4th, but the Indians would take the lead back in the bottom of the inning when with two outs, Maddie McGee singled and scored on Riley Walker’s triple.

Sonoraville took control of the game in the top of the 5th inning scoring 5 runs on 5 hits with the big blow being a two run double by Ansley Hall.

Lila Mullinix pitched the complete game for the Phoenix allowing 3 runs on 6 hits while striking out two and walking one.

Stephens County used three pitchers in the game with Wilson pitching into the 4th and relieved by Elly Hicks and Walker with Hicks taking the loss.

It was an outstanding season for Kasey Ivey’s Lady Indians with a top 5 state finish and an overall record of 22-8. Eight seniors played their final games for the Lady Indians: Kylee Glaze, Fayeth Ivester, Maddie McGee, Bailee Shedd, Hallee Shirley, Carson Stowe, Addison Vandal, and Riley Walker.
