Lady Indians Season Ends at Sandy Creek

The season ended for the Stephens County Lady Indians Softball team on Wednesday afternoon falling to Sandy Creek 2-1 in the first round of the AAA State Playoffs.

With the win, Sandy Creek took the best of 3 series two games to one. The Lady Patriots took game one 3-2 on Tuesday, and the Lady Indians took game two 8-0.

In game 3, The Lady Indians got on the board in the top of the 1st inning when Laney McGee led the game off with a double, and was singled in by Jasmine Lowery. The Lady Indians were able to get a runner to 3rd with no outs, but was not able to score the run.

Sandy Creek tied the game in the bottom of the 1st when Kaliyah Smith reached on an error, and scored on Randi Stiltner’s two-out single.

Sandy Creek grabbed the lead for good in the bottom of the 3rd inning when Smith walked and scored what would be the winning run on another Stiltner single.

Both pitchers were outstanding again. Stephens County’s Allie Huff took the tough loss going 6 innings and allowing just 4 hits and one earned run while striking out six. Smith got the win scattering 6 hits in 7 innings with no walks, and eight strikeouts.

Sandy Creek, the #1 seed from Region-5, improves to 17-11 on the season and will host Rockmart in the 2nd round on Friday.

Stephens County’s season ends with a record of 12-18.

The Lady Indians will lose 5 seniors off this year’s team that made multiple trips to the state playoffs including a finish as State runner-up as freshman.

The five seniors are: Madisyn Fuller, Allie Huff, Jasmine Lowery, Brenna McCall, and Samara Walker.
