Lady Indians Now 2-0 In Region; Boys Drop Close One

The Stephens County Lady Indian basketball team picks up its second straight region win.

Stephens County’s girls jumped out to a 17-point lead in the second half and withstood a late push from Monroe Area to win 41-31 Friday in Monroe.

The Lady Indians hit 14 of 20 free throws in the second half to help seal the win.

Lexie Cash and Mya Cleveland each scored 10 points to lead the Lady Indians.

Tashaiveia Kelly scored 10 to lead the Lady Canes.

Moving to the boys’ game, Monroe Area came from 10 down in the second half to edge the Indians, 47-45.

A trio of three-pointers early in the fourth quarter helped the Purple Hurricanes take a small lead that the Indians could not overcome.

Nunu Walker had 20 points to lead the Indians and Tay Jones added 10.

Marquez Williams scored 14 to lead Monroe Area.

With their win, the Lady Indians are now 9-8 overall and 2-0 in the region.

The boys’ loss drops them to 5-12 overall and 0-2 in the region.

Stephens County basketball returns to action Tuesday on the road in Danielsville against Madison County.

The girls’ will tip off at 6 p.m. and the boys’ game will follow.
