Lady Indians go 3-0 at Veterans Tournament

The Stephens County Lady Indians Softball team went 3 & 0 on Saturday in the Veterans Tournament at Watkinsville.

In the first game, Stephens County won, in dramatic fashion, thanks to a walk-off fielder’s choice at the end of the game to topple Georgia Military College, 2 to 1.

The game was tied at one in the bottom of the eighth inning when Stephens County’s Laney McGee hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored.

Emma Whitfield earned the win for the Lady Indians.

She allowed five hits and one run, over eight innings, striking out 15, and no walks.

In game 2, Stephens County defeated Central Macon, 15 to 0.

The Lady Indians got strong pitching from sophomore, Ally Huff, who threw a perfect game in a 3 inning shutout.

Jolie Nicholson, Brenna McCall, Kasey Westmoreland and Tyra Hunter each had two hits.

Ashton Ayers and Nicholson each had 3 RBI’s.

In game 3, Emma Whitfield shut down East Hall, throwing a complete game shutout and she hit a solo home run in, leading Stephens County to a 1-0 victory.

Whitfield went seven innings, allowing no runs on two hits, striking out nine and no walks.

Jasmine Lowery, Whitfield, and Laney McGee each collected one hit to lead Stephens County.

The Lady Indians improved to 10 & 6 overall.

Stephens County will be back in action tonight, Sept. 11, as they travel to Madison County for a region contest, game time is scheduled for 6:30.
