Lady Indians End Season in Region Quarterfinals

The basketball season is over for the Stephens County Lady Indians.

Stephens County came up just short in the Region 8-AAAA quarterfinals Wednesday against Madison County at Buford High School, losing 47-43.

It was a close game with several lead changes.

The Lady Indians led by two at halftime and by three with one quarter to go.

But with the game tied at 43 with 16 seconds left, Madison County’s Mya Moss went up and hit a jumper over two Lady Indian defenders to put Madison County ahead to stay.

Moss led all scorers with 19 points.

Stephens County was led by Adjai Howard, who scored 12 points, and Mya Cleveland, who scored 11 points.

The Lady Indians end the season with a record of 12-13 overall.

Meanwhile, Madison County improves to 13-13 overall and will play Buford in the region semi-finals.

Buford is the top seed and beat Monroe Area in the quarters Wednesday.

The other girls’ Region 8-AAAA semi-final will pit North Hall against Chestatee as North Hall advanced by beating North Oconee and Chestatee edged White County.

The girls’ region semi-finals will be Friday at Johnson High School, along with the boys’ semifinals.

The finals and consolation games will be on Saturday, also at Johnson.
