Lady Indians Earn Split-Series to be Decided Wednesday

The Stephens County Lady Indians Softball team scored two runs in the 1st inning, and added three runs in each the 3rd and 6th innings to defeat Sandy Creek 8-0 in 6 innings, and earn a split in the AAA state playoffs first round best of 3.

In the first inning, Lanie McGee led off with a walk and advanced to 2nd on a Jasmine Lowery single. Both runners moved to 2nd and 3rd on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Samara Walker.

In the third inning, Lowery doubled, scored on a double by Allie Huff, followed by another double by Walker scoring Dariyah Bell running for Huff.

The Lady Indians finished the game in the bottom of the 6th when Brenna McCall doubled to lead off the inning. After two were out, Aurora Elrod singled, and Tenley Boyd reached on an error scoring McCall. McGee followed with a double scoring both Elrod and Boyd with the final tally.

Allie Huff picked up the win on the mound with 6 shutout innings, allowing just 5 hits and striking out eight.

In game one, Sandy Creek scored two runs in the bottom of the 7th to take a 3-2 win.

Huff and Sandy Creek pitcher Kaliyah Smith were involved in a pitchers duel. The Lady Patriots got on the board in the bottom of the 1st, and that one run held up until the top of the 7th.

In the 7th, Stephens County’s Kaylin Snyder led the inning with a single, After a Boyd single, McGee doubled scoring both runners to give the Lady Indians a 2-1 lead heading to the bottom of the 7th.

The Lady Indians defense let them down in the bottom of the 7th. Two errors put runners at 2nd and 3rd, and with one out, Lady Patriots shortstop doubled to score the tying and winning runs.

Huff took the loss on the mound, but was outstanding allowing just 4 hits and one earned run, while striking out 9.

The two teams will play a deciding game on Wednesday afternoon at Sandy Creek High School with the winner advancing. Airtime on WNEG is set for 3:45 P.M. with the first pitch scheduled for 4.

Elsewhere in the state playoffs involving Region-8 AAA, Oconee County, Franklin County, and Hart County advanced to the 2nd round with series sweeps.
