Lady Indians Earn Late Game Victory at East Jackson

Saige Weckesser made two free throws with 24 seconds remaining to give Stephens County a two-point lead, and the Lady Indians held on with stingy defense to take a 47-45 road win over East Jackson on Tuesday night.

The Lady Indians took a seven-point lead into the 4th quarter, but the Lady Eagles would score the first eight points of the quarter to take the lead before Weckesser’s heroics down the stretch.

The Lady Indians, now 2-4 in region 8-AA play and 8-12 overall, were led in scoring by seniors Ivey Jackson with 17 points and Lanesia Verdell with 13 points.

East Jackson was celebrating senior night and was led by seniors Emilou Moore with 22 points and Jariah Thomas with 15. East Jackson falls to 0-7 in the region and 5-17 overall.

It was all East Jackson in the boys contest as the Eagles broke an 11-game losing streak with 78-53 win over Stephens County.

The Eagles placed three players in double figures led by seniors Bryson Wingfield with 19 points and Bryson Henss with 17.

Colsen Ivey led the Indians with 14 points and Isiah Patterson added 10.

The Indians fall to 1-5 in the region and 4-17 overall.

East Jackson, winning for the first time since December 9th, improves to 1-6 in the region and 4-18 overall.

Both Stephens County teams will play again on Thursday when the return to Currahee Arena to host Prince Avenue Christian. Game time is scheduled for 6 P.M. with airtime at 5:45 P.M. on WNEG.
