Lady Indians Blow Out East Jackson
The Stephens County Lady Indians earned their first region-8 AA win of the season and stopped an eight game losing streak with the best offensive game of the season rolling East Jackson 71-33 Tuesday night in Commerce.
The Lady Indians did not score in the first 4 minutes of the game but battled back to tie the score at 13 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Indians dominated the 2nd quarter 17-3 and outscored the Lady Eagles 41-17 in the 2nd half.
Fayeth Ivester led the balanced attack with 20 points including 6 three-pointers. Jasmine Russell added 11 points, and Lanesia Verdell and Ivey Jackson scored 10 points each for the Lady Indians who improved to 1-4 in the region and 3-17 overall.
East Jackson remains winless in the region and falls to 6-15 overall.
In the boys’ game, East Jackson sophomore Qua Watson poured in 34 points to lead the Eagles to a 77-56 win over Stephens County.
It was the Eagles first win in the region and broke a 5-game losing streak. Brody Carruth added 14 points and Noah Nichols 10 for the Eagles now 1-5 in the region and 7-13 overall.
Stephens County was led in scoring by CJ Harbin with 18 points and Jayden Haynie added 11 for the Indians who dropped their 16th straight game and falls to 0-5 in the region and 1-18 overall.
Stephens County will return to the road on Thursday when they travel to Prince Avenue Christian. Tipoff for the girls game is set for 6 P.M. with airtime scheduled for 5:45 P.M. on WNEG.
