Lady Indians Begin Region Tourney Today

The Stephens County Lady Indians softball team will play Oconee County this afternoon in the Region 8-AAAA tournament in Jefferson. Game time is set for 2 p.m. The Lady Indians finished the season as the number 2 team in the region, and earned an automatic berth in the region final 4 and a spot in the state tournament.

Jefferson finished the season as the number 1 team. Oconee County defeated St. Pius in 2 games on Saturday to advance to play Stephens County—winning the first game 11 to 3 and the second game 16 to 2. Madison County also advanced to play Jefferson by sweeping 2 games from North Oconee.

During the regular season, the Lady Indians and Oconee County split their games—Stephens County won the first game 11 to 1, but lost the second game 3 to 1. Stephens County enters the tournament with a record of 14 & 5 while Oconee County has a 17 & 9 record. The winner will advance to play the winner of the Jefferson/Madison County game in the double-elimination tournament which will determine the region seeding for the state tournament which begins Wednesday, October 11th.
