Lady Indians Advance to Region Finals

The Stephens County Lady Indians will play East Jackson’s Lady Eagles for the Region 8-AAA basketball championship following their 54-35 victory over the Lady Warriors of Oconee County Wednesday night at the Currahee Arena.

The title game will be Friday night at 7:30PM and WNEG Radio will broadcast the game live, starting at 7:15PM

In Wednesday’s win, Renajah Verdell, the Region’s Co-Player of the Year, led the Lady Indians with 19 points. NaNa Eades had 11 points including seven straight free throws in the final period to help put the game away. Savanna Broska had 5 points, KiKi Howard had 8, Brooklyn Steeple had four points and Bre Taylor and Sonata Brown each had 3 points. Caroline Davis came off the bench to lead Oconee County with 13 points.

Stephens County’s girls are now 16-6 overall, Oconee County falls to 8-15.

In the early game, East Jackson’s girls came from behind to beat the Lady Lions of Franklin County, 54-43.

The first game Friday night at the Currahee Arena will feature the Oconee County girls vs. the Franklin County girls. That game will start at 5pm.

After that game is completed, the gym will be emptied and another admission will be charged to watch the Stephens-East Jackson game.
