Indians Win on Homecoming Over Habersham

Stephens County wins the Battle of Currahee Mountain and picks up a fourth straight win in football.

Friday, the Indians scored the last 20 points of the game to beat Habersham Central, 27-12 on Homecoming at the Reservation.

“I’m very proud of our coaching staff and our players,” said Indians’ Head Coach Wesley Tankersley. “They overcame Habersham coming back on us and kept battling all night.”

The teams battled to a scoreless first half as the Indians were led defensively by interceptions from Bailey Stowe and Kyle Watson. Meanwhile, the Raiders also missed a field goal just before halftime.

On the opening play of the third quarter, Ben Stowe connected with Gamarion Carter for a 76-yard touchdown pass to give the Indians a 7-0 lead.

However, the Raiders came back to take a 12-7 lead, scoring touchdowns on a 32-yard touchdown run by Joshua Pickett and a 35-yard touchdown pass from Pickett to Grayson Taylor.

At that point, the Indians reasserted themselves and took the lead for good on the final play of the third quarter when Stowe found Cam Lacy for a 64-yard touchdown pass.

Then, the Indians added two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter courtesy of Ben Stowe’s five-yard touchdown run and 42-yard touchdown pass to Carter. A Javian Hightower interception sealed the victory.

At halftime, Ali Cheyenne Wilson was named Homecoming Queen for Stephens County High School.

With the win tonight, the Indians move to 4-1 and Habersham Central falls to 2-2. Stephens County is off this coming week before starting region play on October 16 with a trip to Monroe Area.
