Indians Win at Elbert

The Stephens County Indians baseball team got off to a fast start at the plate, and combined with great pitching and defense, rolled to a 7-1 victory over Elbert County Tuesday night in Elberton.

Indians starting pitcher Davis Swenson made his 2nd great start going 5 2/3 innings and allowing just a run on 2 hits and striking out 9. With the win, Swenson improves to 4-2 on the season. Dawson Sorrells pitched the last 1 1/3 innings allowing just one hit and striking out 2.

At the plate, the Indians had 9 hits and every player in the lineup contributed to the 7 runs scored.

The Indians got 2 runs in the 1st inning when Sorrells walked and scored on a Swenson two out RBI single. After Isaiah Martin walked, Ridge Adams singled home Aaron Chappelear, running for Swenson, to make the score 2-0. The Indians would get 3 more runs in the 2nd inning. Carson Brock led off the inning with a walk and stole 2nd and again the Indians would provide some 2 out magic. A Cole Snyder infield single moved Brock to 3rd, and he scored on a Cayden Maxwell RBI single. Snyder scored when Swenson reached on a hard hit error, and Maxwell scored on a Martin RBI single to make the score 5-0 after 2 innings.

The Indians added their final 2 runs in the 5th inning when Adams singled, stole 2nd, and scored on Eli Wenger’s RBI double. Wenger scored the Indians final run when Ben Hobbs reached on an error.

Elbert County’s lone run came in the 6th inning when Cole Hudson scored on a double steal.

Stephens County improves to 9-8-1 on the season Elbert County falls to 11-7-1.

The Indians return to the diamond Wednesday night when they host Olentangy Orange, Ohio. Airtime on WNEG is set for 5:45 P.M. with first pitch scheduled for 6 P.M.
