Indians Varsity Wrestling team takes 3rd at Area Duals Region Tournament

The Stephens County Indians Varsity Wrestling team finished third at the Area Duals Region Tournament at Oconee County last Saturday.  Stephens County defeated St. Pius in the first round, 54 to 22.  The Indians lost to the eventual champ, North Oconee, in the semi-finals.  Madison County defeated Oconee County in the other semi-final.  The Indians matched up with Oconee County in the consolation finals and won, 40 to 37.  After North Oconee defeated Madison County for the championship, 48 to 30, Madison County took second place over the Indians, 55 to 21.  North Oconee and Madison County will advance to represent Region 8-AAAA at the State Area Team Tournament in Macon.

In a dual match last Tuesday at Riverside Military in Gainesville, Stephens County defeated Johnson of Gainesville but lost to West Hall.  And in a dual match last Thursday in Seneca, the Indians defeated Seneca but lost to West Oak, one of the top teams in South Carolina.

Bailey McKee, a senior wrestling in the 182 pound class, was named the Indian Wrestler of the Week.  Bailey went undefeated in the dual tournaments at Riverside and Seneca, and won all of his matches except one at the Area Duals.
