Indians Use Big 2nd Half to Overcome Eagles
The Stephens County Indians trailed by 11 points at the half but rallied back with a dominating 3rd quarter to defeat the East Jackson Eagles Friday night on the road 55-31.
The Indians put together a nice drive on their first possession that culminated with a 9-yard touchdown run by Javin Gordon. East Jackson quarterback Drew Richardson had an outstanding first half with three touchdown passes with the first being 24 yards to Brady Saunders to tie the score at 7. Seconds later Gordon took the kickoff 91 yards and with the missed extra point the Indians led 13-7.
The rest of the half was all East Jackson with Richardson throwing two touchdown passes one to Brandon Callahan and the other to Saunders. The Eagles also added a Grey Albritton 18-yard field goal on the final play of the half.
The Indians came out on fire in the 3rd quarter. Tripp Underwood connected with Jonah Swinton on touchdown passes of 31 and 33 yards to grab the lead and then added to it on a Gordon 3-yard touchdown run and Morris Perkins interception for a touchdown.
The Eagles cut the lead to 41-31 in the 4th quarter when after a blocked punt, Richardson ran 13-yards for a touchdown, but the Indians would answer back on Gordon’s 4th and 5th touchdown runs of the night on 12 and 4-yard runs.
The Indians scored 42 points in the 2nd half and forced 4 turnovers in the game.
The Indians finish the regular season with a record of 3-2 in the region and 6-4 overall and will now most likely host the first round of the AA state playoffs beginning November 15th with an opponent to be determined.
