Indians Teams Split in Regular Season Finale

The Stephens County Lady Indians hit the 20-win mark Friday night with a close 65-61 victory over the Lady Titans of North Oconee in overtime. The two teams were tied at 54 at the end of regulation.

Kiki Howard hit a crucial three point shot in overtime and the Lady Indians hit six free throws to put the game away.  Na Na Eades led the Lady Indians with 20 points. Renajah Verdell scored 14 points and Howard chipped in with 12.  Ansley Hall led the Lady Titans with 26 points.

Stephens County’s girls are 20-5 and finished the season at 7-1 in region play and are the number 1 seed for the upcoming Region Tournament.  The North Oconee girls are 15-10 and finished 3-5 in the region and will be the number 5 seed.

 

The Lady Indians will play their first game in the Region 8-Quad- Tournament Thursday at Oconee County High School.  Air time on WNEG will be approximately 6:45pm.

Stephens County’s boys lost their 8th straight contest, dropping a 76-55 decision to the North Oconee boys.  Tyrese Mackie led the Indians with 14 points. D.J.Jones had 9 points, Kenny Colwell and Chris Sinclair each had 7 points, Gamarian Carter scored 8 points, while Mucha Trimier and Javian Hightower each had five points. Dylan Garrington led the Titans with 22 points.

Stephens County’s boys will travel to St. Pius Tuesday in their first game in the region tournament, taking on Oconee County.  Air time on WNEG Radio will be 7:15pm.
