Indians Take Region Opener in Atlanta

Davis Swenson had a huge game on the mound and at the plate to lead the Stephens County Indians baseball team to a 4-0 win in the Region-8 opener at St. Pius in Atlanta on Tuesday evening.

Swenson pitched 6 innings of shutout baseball allowing just 4 hits, and striking out 10 to to get the win and improve his record to 3-2.

Swenson also had had 2 RBI’s to lead the Indians 9-hit attack at the plate.

After a scoreless first 3 innings, the Indians would break through in the top of the 4th. Cayden Maxwell led off with a single, stole 2nd base, and scored on Swenson’s single to break the scoreless tie. The Indians scored again in the inning when Ridge Adams singled to score Carson Brock, running for Swenson, to make the score 2-0.

The Indians would get 2 more runs in the 6th inning. Maxwell again led off with a single, stole 2nd base, and scored on a Swenson triple. The Indians final run came on an Isaiah Martin sacrifice fly that scored Brock, again running for Swenson.

Dawson Sorrells got the last three outs pitching the 7th inning for the Indians now 1-0 in Region-8 play, and 8-6-1 overall.

Daniel Teran took the loss for St. Pius. The Golden Lions are now 0-1 in the region and 3-11 overall.

The only other Region-8 matchup on Tuesday saw North Oconee defeat Madison County 6-1.

Stephens County will host St. Pius for a Region-8 doubleheader on Friday at the reservation. Airtime on WNEG for game one is set for 4:45 P.M. with first pitch at 5 P.M. Game two will be 20 minutes after game one is complete.
