Indians Take Pitchers Dual at Franklin County

The Stephens County Indians won a pitcher’s dual with Franklin County and brought home a 2-0 victory Friday night in Carnesville.

Stephens County’s Davis Swenson was outstanding pitching 5 innings of shutout baseball, allowing only 3 hits, striking out 11 batters, with no walks to get the win.

Gabe White pitched the final two innings to pick up the save. White struck out 4 and did not allow a hit in his 2 innings of work.

Franklin County’s Blake Wehunt took the tough loss. Wehunt allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, striking out 11 in five innings.

The game started an hour later than scheduled and was slowed by an hour long rain delay in the 5th inning.

Both Indian runs came in the third inning. Cole Snyder led off the inning with a single, Aaron Chappelear reached on a bunt and throwing error that moved Snyder to 3rd base. Snyder scored the game’s first run on a passed ball, and Chappelear scored the 2nd and final run on a Dawson Sorrells fielder’s choice RBI. Sorrells had two hits in the game to lead the Indians at the plate.

Stephens County picked up their 4th straight win and is now 7-2-1 on the season. Franklin County had their 3 game winning streak stopped and is now 5-5.

Stephens County returns to the diamond Monday night when they host Habersham Central at the Reservation. Airtime is set for 5:45 P.M. with first pitch scheduled for 5:55 P.M. on WNEG.
