Indians Take Down Out of State Foe

The Stephens County Indians baseball team played host to Olentangy Orange, Ohio on Wednesday night and came away with a 3-1 victory.

The Indians fell behind early when the Pioneers cashed a leadoff walk in on a sacrifice fly to take a 1-0 lead.

Stephens County battled back to score 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th. Cole Snyder started the inning with a single and moved to 2nd on Cayden Maxwell’s sacrifice bunt. Davis Swenson then singled Snyder to 3rd base, and Isaiah Martin’s long sacrifice fly tied the game at one. After a Ridge Adams single, Eli Wenger tripled to deep right center field scoring Swenson and Adams for the 3-1 lead and final score.

After the 1st inning trouble, Gabe White pitched outstanding baseball for the Indians allowing just one hit in five innings, striking out 8 and walking 4. With the win, White improves to 3-3. Dawson Sorrells got his first save of the season pitching two scoreless innings, allowing 2 hits, and striking out 3.

Stephens County improves to 10-8-1 on the season. Olentangy Orange, with a season just starting with road games in the South, falls to 0-3.

The Indians will play their final non-region game on Friday when they travel to Athens to face Cedar Shoals. The Jaguars are still looking for their first win of the season and fell to Stephens County 16-1 earlier this year. Airtime on Friday is set for 5:45 P.M. with first Pitch at 5:55 P.M. on WNEG.
