Indians Sweep Eagles in Region Home Opener

The Stephens County Indians and Lady Indians won their first region game of the season Friday night in a doubleheader at the Currahee Arena.

LaNyia Johnson and Ivey Jackson both scored 10 points as the Lady Indians won a hard fought 49-41 victory over the East Jackson Lady Eagles.

A strong 18-point final period gave the Stephens County girls the win.

Emma K. Powell and Lanesia Verdell each had 7 points to lead the Lady Indians.

Zariah Gillespie led all scorers with 17 points for East Jackson.

The Lady Indians are now 7-9 and 1-1 in region play.

In the boys’ game. it was tough battle all through the contest, but the Indians defeated the Eagles in overtime 69-63.

Isiah Patterson led the Indians with 18 points. Jayden Haynie had 14 and Kaiden
Harbin had 12 points to also place in double figures.

Noah Nichols scored 18 points for East Jackson.

The Stephens County boys’ record is now 4-12 overall 1-1 in region-8

AA.

Next up for the Indians is a road trip to Dacula to take on the Hebron Christian Lions on Tuesday night. Game time is set for 6 P.M. with airtime on WNEG set for 5:45 P.M.
