Indians Suffer 2nd Loss of the Season at Kell
The Kell Longhorns scored six runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to break open a tight game and roll to a 9-1 victory over Stephens County on Wednesday night in Marrietta.
The Indians trailed 3-1 going to the bottom of the 6th but the Longhorns sent 10 men to the plate and delivered 5 hits that included 2 RBI’s each from Mason Hillman, Preston Bretti, and Zach Simmons.
Simmons started the game on the mound and went 4 innings without allowing a run or hit and struck out 8. Austin Gross pitched the final 3 innings for Kell, now 13-2 on the season and rated #3 in AAAA, and allowed a run on 4 hits while striking out 6.
Stephens County’s only run came in the 5th inning when Christian Hewitt doubled and scored on Hayden Scott’s RBI single. Tyler Zigan and Duke Collins delivered the other two hits for the Indians.
Findley Ward took the loss for the Indians pitching 4 innings and allowing 3 runs, with 2 earned, on 4 hits while striking out 3. Konnor Loudermilk pitched the final 2 innings allowing 6 runs on 6 hits while striking out 4.
The Indians complete the non-region schedule with a record of 10-2. Stephens County will begin region-8 AA play on Monday at home vs. East Jackson. First pitch is scheduled for 5:55 P.M. with airtime set for 5:40 P.M. on WNEG.
