Indians Split Doubleheader Run Rule Games with Monroe

The Stephens County Indians and the Monroe Area Purple Hurricanes split a double-header Thursday evening at the Reservation.

In game 1, Garrett Pless tossed a one hitter as the Indians blanked the Canes 10-0 in five innings.

Stephens County jumped on top in the first inning with four runs on three hits and three Monroe errors.

Colby Fowler led the way for the Indians with three hits and two RBIs. Pless helped his own cause with a 2 run single in a five run fifth inning. On the mound, Pless struck out four and walked five in earning his fourth win of the year.

Game two, a 13-1 Monroe win in five innings, was a completely different story with the Hurricanes jumping in front in the top of the first inning with five runs on four hits and what would be the first of five errors.

Starter Grant Babbitt only lasted one third of an inning. Konnor Loudermilk, Andrew Keown
and Hayden Scott finished out the game.

The only RBI for the Indians in game two was a sacrifice fly by Colby Fowler in the fourth inning. Nick Randall had a double and a triple in the second game. Monroe catcher Dylan Hamby led the Canes with four RBIs in game two.

Stephens County’s record is now 10-4 overall and 2-1 in region 8-AAA. Monroe Area is 6-8 and 1-2 in region play.

The Indians will continue Region 8-AAA play on Tuesday when Hebron Christian will come to the Reservation. Game time is 5:55 P.M. and airtime on WNEG Radio will be 5:45 P.M.
