Indians Rout Madison

The Stephens County Lady Indians basketball team put together their best game of the season to open Region-8 play with a resounding 87-75 win over Madison County Friday night at Currahee Arena.

The Lady Indians made 13 3-pointers and all five starters scored in double figures. Kiara “Ki Ki” Howard led the way with 20 points and five 3-pointers, Renajah Verdell had 19, Savanna Broska 18 (2-3pointers), Breanna Taylor 17 (five 3-pointers), and Na Na Eades 13 points (including 8 for 8 from the line).

The balanced scoring attack was needed to overcome Madison County’s Kayla McPherson’s 41 point night.

The Lady Indians improve to 7-3 overall and 1-0 in the region. Madison County falls to 4-6 and 0-1 in Region-8 play.

In the boys contest, Stephens County used a late 1st quarter spurt and shut down Madison County the rest of the way rolling to a 59-28 win.

The Indians Kenny Colwell led all scorers with 19 points, and Tyrese Mackie and Gamarion Carter added 10 points each.

The Indians defense limited the Red Raiders to just 9 2nd half points, and no Madison County player finished the game in double figures.

Stephens County improves to 4-6 overall and 1-0 in Region-8 play. Madison County falls to 1-8 on the season.

Stephens County will return to non-region play on Saturday when they travel to face East Hall. Airtime is set for 4:45 P.M. with girls tip-off at 5 P.M., and the boys to follow on 93.1 FM and AM-630 WNEG, and at wnegradio.com.
