Indians Roll Lions in Monday Night Football Tilt
The Stephens County Indians trailed Franklin County early 3-0 but scored the next 21 points to lead 21-3 at the half and rolled to a 35-3 win over the Lions in the region-8 AA opener Monday night in Carnesville.
Gage Robertson’s 23-yard field goal gave Franklin County the early 3-0 lead. A Tripp Underwood to Jonah Swinton pass set up Javin Gordon’s 2-yard touchdown run to give the Indians their first lead at 7-3. In the 2nd quarter, Underwood added two touchdown passes of 19-yards to Gordon, and 25-yards to Swinton.
Gordon added two more touchdown runs of 1 and 12-yards in the 3rd quarter for the final scores of the game.
After the opening drive by the Lions that led to the field goal, Stephens County stymied the Lion running game limiting them to just 89 rushing yards and 101 total yards. Stephens County rolled up a total of 262 yards through the air with Davon Swinton and Jonah Swinton combining for 13 catches on the night and the Indians finished with 397 total yards.
The game was played on Monday night after two postponements due to Hurricane Helena. In the post-game Stephens County Head Coach Wesley Tankersley said that he was proud of the players performance in an unusual week.
Stephens County improves to 1-0 in the region and 4-2 overall. Franklin County falls to 0-1 in the region and 3-3 overall. The Indians will have a quick turnaround when they host Prince Avenue Christian this Friday night at the Reservation.
